Recreation Division Trips 2008

Trips that have been submitted to the executive as club trips will be posted here. They will be just some of the trips that may take place during this summer's season. There's always a chance that more may be scheduled, some may be canceled, or dates could be changed. The SCC phone hotline (306) 343-0191 and the website will be updated regularly throughout the season, so check often for current information and contacts.

If you want to organize more trips, post the information on the SCC website bulletin board. As more information about trips becomes available it will be added to this page.

All trips (unless specified) are organized and led by volunteer Club members. The leader's role is to work out the logistics and be a contact person for organization purposes. Participation in any Club trip requires that you have a current membership. It is important to understand that the Club is unable to provide "fully outfitted" trips.

Canoes and kayaks along with the necessary paddling and safety gear are available from the Club for a nominal fee. Personal gear is the responsibility of each participant. Any required group equipment is organized by participant cooperation. The costs (transportation, food, etc.) associated with each trip are shared.

Transportation is usually provided by car pooling. Food and meal preparation duties are shared, with lots of help from the more experienced members. If unsure of your skills or capabilities, consider a day trip or a short one-camping-night trip before dreaming about a two-week wilderness adventure.

As some trips are flexible it is best to contact the leader well in advance of the trip date with your questions or concerns. Additional information about a particular trip can usually be obtained by phoning the trip leader. Always plan to attend the pre-trip planning session. Details regarding the trip will be finalized at these sessions so come prepared. Trip planning meetings for weekend trips are usually held at the Boathouse at Victoria Park (Avenue G & 16th Street) at 7:00 p.m. the Tuesday before the trip. Planning meetings for longer trips are held at least a week in advance to allow participants time to get ready for the trip.

All trips are done for fun and enjoyment and allow you to be part of a group with similar interests. You can find more trip planning information on this web site.

Tuesday Evenings at the Boathouse

  • Starting May 6th, 2008 and every Tuesday until September.  7:00 - 7:15 pm
A knowledgeable member will be on hand to help out with equipment and answer questions, and conduct boathouse orientations.

May 18 - 19th: Torch River

The Torch River north of Love is a great little river for novice paddlers to get a bit of whitewater experience before heading off on a northern fly-in canoe trip. The river is full of easy class 1 rapids, which require some rock dodging. The dates have been determined, the water level is good, the forecast is great; it's going to be a lot of fun!
Contact Mark @ 955-4587.

May 23rd - 25th: A Focus on Fishing in PANP

The plan is to travel to Prince Albert National Park, buy the required licenses, and head out to Kingsmere Lake on the Friday night. Saturday and part of Sunday will be spent catching the gorgeous lake trout that Kingsmere has to offer. There is space for one to three persons on this trip. Call Wes at 955-0566 if you are interested.

May 29th - June 1st: The McLennan Lake Loop

Join a group for the beautiful trip through this area north of Missinipe. This trip is suitable for beginners. Veteran paddlers are leading an inexperienced group and we have space for one more. You will not need to worry about canoes or vehicles as they are already in place. Call Wes at 955-0566 if you are interested.

July 19 to 27: South Saskatchewan River

Are you looking for a little more excitement when paddling on the South Saskatchewan river but aren't quite ready to tackle the northern white water? How about spending a relaxing 6 days and paddle 230 km from Saskatoon to the confluence of the North and South Saskatchewan rivers, east of Prince Albert. Learn how to safely navigate a ferry crossing, travel under different bridges, paddle past the Fish Creek Battlefield and possibly stop at the Batoche National Historic Park. If you have average paddle skills, enjoy the great outdoors, like cooking on an open fire and have a desire to meet new people with similar interests, your company would be welcomed. If you are interested and have some free time between July 19th and 27th please contact Richard Jackson at 382-6986.

September 7th - Sunday Paddle

Join me on a paddle from the Fred Heil Canoe Launch back to the boathouse (about 19 km). Meet at the boathouse at 2:00 pm to arrange boats and for a carpool. We will enjoy a lazy day of paddling and floating along the river, stopping now and then to enjoy the many sandbars. At about half way we will stop along the river for a fire and supper. Bring your favorite camping meal and impress your fellow paddlers. For more details or to sign up call Mark @ 955-4587.

October 10th - 13th - Thanksgiving With The Voyageurs

Follow in the paddle strokes of the men that explored the north, while spending the Thanksgiving weekend paddling the north in a 25-foot, cedar strip voyageur canoe. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery as well as the camaraderie of your fellow paddlers as we paddle together, along with our gear. As usual the food will be second to none. For more details or to sign up for the trip call Mark @ 955-4587.

Check back here occasionally. We hope to add more trips through the summer. If you would like to plan a club trip and have it added to the list, contact us.
